Things to See and Do

The Beach:

Pismo Beach has over 23 miles of unspoiled beaches where you can enjoy a myriad of activities including volleyball, sea kayaking, golfing, surfing, fishing off the pier, clamming, horseback riding, jet skiing and of course, sun bathing! You won't want to miss our spectacular sunsets.

 

Sea Kayaking

Central Coast Kayaks offers rentals and tours along our beautiful central coast. Everything you need is included in the rental fee. They can be reached at 805-773-3500.

 

Horseback Riding:

You may ride horses along the beach and in the dune area. Horses can be rented at the Silver Spur Livery Stables, 805-489-8100.

 

Fishing:

Fishing from the Pier generally results in some good catches of red snapper and ling cod. No license is required for fishing off the Pier, but you will need one for deep sea or surf fishing. You may rent fishing gear at a bait and tackle shop on the Pier.

 

Surfing:

Pismo Pier has long been a popular place to surf or body board year round. Rental board and wet suits are available at Moondoggies, 805-773-1995, Pacific Leisure, 805-773-2855, Pancho's, 805-773-7100, and Beach Cycle Rentals, 805-773-5518.

 

Bicycling:

Enjoy Pismo's near perfect weather. Bicycles, surreys and roller blades are available for rent at Beach Cycle Rentals, 805-773-5518.

 

Shopping:

Downtown Pismo Beach offers visitors a variety of shopping options: surf shops, art galleries, gift shops, antique shops, shell shops, clothing stores and more. Don't miss Prime Outlets shopping center right off U.S. 101 and Five Cities Drive. It's a bargain hunter's paradise.

 
Bowling:

Pismo Offers a Bowling Alley for those that want to stay in practice. 

 

Tennis:

Tennis anyone? Pismo Beach's public courts are located at the corner of Wadsworth and Bello and the European style red clay courts are adjacent to the Shore Cliff Lodge 2555 Price St.

 

Sand Dunes & ATV Riding:

The sand dunes are often used for movies and television shows. They are ideal for horseback riding, picnics, hiking, guided nature walks and camping. For the adventurous, four wheel ATV riding on the dunes is a thrill not to be missed. ATV and equipment rental is available at BJ's ATV, 805-481-5411 and Arnie's ATV Rentals, 805-473-1610.

Hummer Beach Tours:

Experience firsthand the dramatic terrain of the Oceano Dunes landscape with Pacific Adventure Tours. Learn all about the geologic formations and wildlife which are likely to be spotted. The Audubon Warbler, Long Billed Marsh Wren, Red Tailed Hawk, Snowy Plover, and the Tern nest within the area and are often sighted along the way. (805) 481-9330

 

Amusement Centers:

Pismo Beach offers a wide variety of amusement centers. A full arcade is located at the Typhoon Family Entertainment Center - 805-773-8604. Bowling can be found at the Pismo Bowl located downtown - 805-773-2482. Pool tables galore and more can be found downtown at Hotshot Billiards - 805-773-4542.

 

 

Nightlife:

Dining, dancing and entertainment can be found at the Spyglass Restaurant, Shore Cliffs, McLintocks, Harry's Cocktail Lounge and the Sea Cliffs.

 

 

Mineral Springs:

At nearby Avila Beach there are mineral springs where you can swim in the pool or take a hot mineral bath. Sycamore Mineral Springs, 805-595-7302 and Avila Hot Springs, 805-595-2359 are two of the few mineral springs still operating in California.

 

 
Golfing

Golfing

Try out a new set of woods on one of the area's half-dozen word-class golf courses. The Black Lake Golf Course (805) 343-1214 and the Avila Beach Golf Resort (805) 595-4000 are within ten minutes of Pismo Beach. Pismo Beach even has it's own 9 hole executive course called the Pismo State Beach Golf Course (805) 481-5215.

 

 

Butterfly Trees:

South of the North State Beach Campground, thousands of Migrating Monarch butterflies cluster in the limbs of Monterey pines and Eucalyptus trees. They begin arriving in late October and stay until February. A sight not to be missed. FREE Admission.

 

 

Nearby Attractions

A short driving distance away is the charming Danish town of Solvang, and the historic communities of Santa Ynez, Ballard, Buellton, and Los Olivos, and the old village of Arroyo Grande.

 

 

Lopez Lake

Only a quick drive southeast of Pismo Beach. Enjoy camping, fishing water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, horseback riding, motor boating, sailing and much more.

 

 

Hearst Castle

The palatial home of publisher William Randolph Hearst is located one hour north (55 miles) of Pismo. Choose from five Tours. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-444-4445.

 

 

Wineries

Eight world-class wineries are located within 5-8 miles of Pismo Beach in the Edna and Arroyo Grande Valleys, and over 20 wineries are located throughout the north county.
